What is it? A two-hour informational session on autism and other pervasive developmental disorders conducted by an autism specialist and a parent of a child with autism. Held in Room 241 of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research on Human Development.
Who should attend? This orientation is for parents of both newly-diagnosed and previously-diagnosed children, grandparents, educators, psychologists, pediatricians and other medical professionals, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, early interventionists, and other service providers.
What will I learn? You will learn: - Characteristics of Autism, Aspergers, PDD (Pervasive Developmental Delay) and other Autism Spectrum Disorders;
- How autism affects behavior;
- Implications for learning and intervention; and
- A parent's perspective on intervention and family support services in our community.
Is there a Cost? No, there is no cost for the session or for childcare. How do I sign up? You may register online by clicking here, or contact ASMT at (615) 385-2077 for reservations and information. Enrollment is limited; reservations are required.
Is child care available? Yes, child care is available with advance request.
Directions to The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research on Human Development from downtown Nashville (See Map Below for Parking): From Interstate 40, take the Broadway exit away from downtown - bear left at the fork to stay on Broadway/21st Avenue. Take Broadway/21st Avenue to Edgehill (on the Vanderbilt Campus) - turn left on Edgehill, and the Kennedy Center entrance is the first right. The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Research on Human Development is the first building on your right. Room 241 is on the main floor, just inside the front doors.
The child care providers will meet you at Room 241 to take your child to the child care facility downstairs.
Orientations are held bi-monthly.
Orientations are almost always on the third Thursday evening of the month.
